Homemade applesauce tastes so much better than store bought and made with just 4 ingredients it’s whipped up in minutes. 

Applesauce is such a lovely healthy treat containing plenty of fiber and polyphenols. Try it:

  • swirled into your morning oatmeal or coconut yogurt
  • as a baking substitute
  • as a topping on pancakes or waffles
  • just enjoy a serving as a sweet snack

What’s in this Vegan Applesauce?

  • apples
  • zest and juice of an orange
  • zest and juice of a lemon
  • date syrup (use maple syrup if you prefer)
  • ground cinnamon

How do you make it?

Did I mention it’s SO easy!

  1. Peel, core and cut the apples into large chunks. If you’re feeling lazy you don’t even have to peel them!
  2. Place all the ingredients in a pan, bring to a simmer and cook for about 10-15 minutes
  3. Mash them a little to break up the chunks.
  4. That’s it!

How long will it keep and can I freeze it?

  • Homemade vegan applesauce will keep in the fridge for about 5 days.
  • Yes! you can absolutely freeze it.

Best Ever Vegan Applesauce

Ingredients

Scale

4 apples, peeled, cored and cut into large chunks (I used Gala, Honeycrisp are also excellent)

Zest of an orange and 1 tablespoon of juice (I used Navel)

Zest of a lemon and 1 tablespoon of juice

1 tablespoon Date Syrup (or maple syrup)

1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Place all the ingredients in a saucepan.
  2. Bring to a simmer, cover, allow to cook on a low simmer for approximately 10 -15 minutes until the apples are tender.
  3. Remove from heat, use a hand whisk to gently break up the chunks. Serve or place in the fridge for later use.
